a mother is nursing her 14 month old child. The mother was recently
diagnosed with Celiac Disease>>>>>
just wondering: when did CD signs and symptoms (S&S) appear? ....was the mom
symptom-free until "recently" when diagnosed? ....or did the CD S&S
gradually appear and increase over the last few months?

If mom was not having any or not noticeable S&S for most of the last 14
months, then S&S probably do not worsen w/Bf, because, for example, Mom is
probably Bf *less* now than, for instance, 10 months ago.

If mom is gradually Bf her 14 month old baby less, ie: baby eating other
foods, then maybe associated hormonal changes due to *less* Bf could be a factor.

If baby goes through a growth spurt or for any reason starts Bf *more* have
the mom note what happens with CD S&S, ...increase or decrease?

In my own case, my autoimmune disorder S&S flared a bit upon weaning, much
like they probably would have after a pregnancy followed by *not* Bf.

With Bf my feeling was that the gradual change in hormones due to very
gradual weaning made for a less severe flare.

<<<Could nursing be contributing to a pro-inflammatory state for her body,
that
would be perpetuating her autoimmune symptoms? Does the state of lactation
alter gut permeability....>>>

not that I have known of. There is probably some info on Bf w/autoimmune
disorders in the Lactnet archives.

A good resource would be Dr. Jack Newman, his website includes a forum and
an email address for Dr Newman:
