Dear Lactnetters
I have a mother who has complete lactation failure. She breastfed her first
baby for 10 months with no problems and was looking forward to breastfeeding
this new baby. After 4 days not a drop of colostrum could be obtained. She
commenced double pumping and using the SNS, but now at 4weeks post- partum
there is still no milk, not a drop.
Tests have been done for thyroid function which are normal.Blood tests show
that prolactin levels are low even after breastfeeding. She does not seem
to have retained products. Her placenta was complete and her vaginal loss
has been normal and has now ceased. She has had no tragedy in her life
recently.

Her baby loves to be at the breast so she always feeds with the SNS.

This mother is devastated and would like to know if there is any hope of
getting up a milk supply. Is there anything further that should be
investigated?
Thanks in advance.
