Hi Elisa,

I have experienced this with older babies taking solids which alter the PH
in their saliva triggering eczema. With a 6 week old unless the baby is
taking anything else orally - vitamins, pacifier, medication etc., I would
think a close look at the mother's diet would give you clues. The mother
appears to be highly sensitive. Excuse me for saying the obvious. Before I
moved from So. Ca. and since, I have received reports about practioners
working on food sensitivities by unblocking neural pathways. This seem
preferable to me to the unending food elimination diets. (I never suggest
alternative practices unless the mother is already using them. I just use
open ended questions.) Apparently these techniques "cure" the sensitivity
and food deprivation isn't an issue (for long). Just an idea. In the
meantime, again, not an easy task but swabbing the baby's mouth with sterile
water and a gauze pad prior to feeding may help. Mom's areolar PH and the
baby's seem to be out of balance.

Hope this helps.
