Subject: tight frenulum?
# slipped past everyone, especially if he's not making her sore. My most
recent tongue-tie case sensitized me. It really didn't look too bad, and #

This reminded me of something I meant to ask earlier...

A mom told her baby has a heart shaped tongue, the frenulum is attached
right onto the tip of the tongue, she also said the tongue looks short. Mom
wasn't able to say for sure if it reaches over the gumline. Mom had sore
nipples with bit of bleeding. Nipples ok now, baby is two weeks old. Plenty
of milk, very strong let-down. Baby gaining weight well (two-wk check-up),
poops in every diaper. Baby is a fast feeder and has a paci.

Anyway, at the hospital the mom had asked the pedi if the baby's frenulum
needs to be cut. The pedi had laughed aloud, saying they don't do it anymore
since it does more harm than good, and they might clip it if the child yet
doesn't talk at the age of two years. Mom's father didn't learn to say
r-letter until at age of eight (short frenulum? - Finnish r-letter is
strong, very different from English r-letter, btw.)

Q: What might be the harm of clipping the pedi referred to ??

Just wondering if this might, in a worse scenario, end up in mom's milk
drying up little by little. I mean, the mom has lots of milk right now, but
if the baby truly has some problem with the short frenulum and if the baby
is thus unable to stimulate the breast adequately (just drinking the milk,
not so much suckling it?), might that cause problems in the long run?
