A good resource on PKU that encourages breastfeeding is:

Phenylketonuria (PKU): Screening and management. NIH consensus statement 2000
October 16-18; 17(3):1-33

This gives the schedule for monitoring and the blood levels that are
recommended. This NIH consensus recommended breastfeeding. There is also
evidence that babies fed breast milk before their diagnosis showed higher
IQs.
