I wanted to share some good news. We in Canada have just finished
celebrating our Breastfeeding Week and locally we had 85 photos
entered into our breastfeeding contest from a community that has less
than 500 births a year! We had great prizes by countless local
businesses, many of them worth over $100. We did our second calendar
and yes they are up all over town. Last year there was a little
concern about some locations/clientele finding it offensive...that
led to people being offended because someone thought they would be
offended...if you can follow that!
We have people organizing their photos before the babes are even
born! Just amazing. It is a great community development
project...and just so you know the mom nursing 'twins' is actually
nursing two of three triplets. :) It really works to normalize
breastfeeding. I hear comments like "well I am going to nurse this
baby because that's what everyone does around here not like xxxx
community where I had my last one" She cared more about what was the
community 'norm' than any health information we could have provided.
It is kind of amazing when you think of the fuss in New Brunswick at
the moment.

If you want to see the Cowichan cover photo go to
http://www.volunteercowichan.bc.ca/
You might have to wait for the photo to load.
We printed a limited number this year so if someone wants one they
need to order it soon. However if we get enough demand we can see
about doing a second printing The photo is more clear in the
calendar than it appears on the website and won the Most Humorous category.
