Yes, Lisa the results are great! I have been using something like this for
about 20 years in my private practice - ever since I viewed "Birth
Self-attachment". More recently I use it in the hospital setting -
especially if baby is not feeding well. Facilitating what baby can do and
working "with" the baby just makes so much sense.

This was reinforced for me today. A 12-day old baby was admitted with
dehydration and jaundice. Mother described her birth and early experience
in another hospital. No skin-to-skin care. Plenty of separation. Breast
and baby's head mashed together to try and force a screaming baby to latch.
Staff got angry with mother for being reluctant to use a pacifier - how else
could they console her baby in the nursery? Baby now very hungry but tires
easily. Not happy to be near the breast (bad association?) Milk supply not
great. Distressed mother and baby.

Am I naive in thinking that all of this could have been prevented with a
gentler approach?
