This is a timely topic around here. At our monthly mom's meeting Tuesday,
someone asked about the patch, as well as the IUD and mini-pill. I
suggested caution! The last time we discussed this, one of the moms we had
worked extremely hard with to build up a supply (she had previous breast
surgery) suddenly began having trouble again. Turns out she had asked her
doc for something that couldn't possibly interfere with her milk supply. He
prescribed the mini-pill and there went her supply! This was mentioned at
the next meeting - turns out several of the mothers were on the mini-pill -
the ones with ongoing supply issues! Arrrggghhh.

I haven't seen much on the IUD in recent years. Is there any possible
impact on breastfeeding? I assume there is with the hormonal ones - are
there any IUDs which are compatible with bfing?

BTW, I would love to see a honest, informative website about contraception -
including natural family planning and lactation amennorrhea - from a
breastfeeding-impact perspective. Anybody know of one? The information our
mothers are getting from their OBs is not accurate at all.
