I'll add one anecdote on the other side: a mother of twins who never
produced quite enough milk for them, probably because of limited time at
breast.

She had the most horrific case of mastitis that I have ever seen, by far,
compounded by 3rd degree burns (from her attempt to use a chemical wrap to
put heat on the breast) and peau d'orange skin. I went to see her, planning
to help her hand express if necessary, but frankly didn't dare *touch* that
swollen, inflamed, burned breast except with the gentlest of fingers.

But she pumped. Painfully but religiously, every 2 hours. And by the time
the mastitis had cleared, she had more milk on that side than it had ever
produced.

Back to the not-quite-frequent-enough nursings, and her supply reverted to
not-quite-enough. (The happy news is, both babies nursed well into
toddlerhood.)

If any breast was entitled to a supply drop, it was that one. Yet the
reverse happened, *during* the mastitis.
