Just a note to comment on pain control for our c/s moms. Our moms mostly
have duramorph epidural for their sections and usually follow up w/ toradol
30 mg IV q 6 hr. while the IV is in place. Of course, this is for those not
having a stat general. Most of the time, this will hold them till they can
take PO fluids and we start them on percocet q 3-4 hr. and PO motrin 800 mg q
6 hr.  We make every attempt to put the baby to breast while in recovery;
usually w/in the first hr. So far, haven't seen any problems like has been
described w/ the labor epidurals. Some of these moms have been in labor for
a while prior to sx. so I am not sure how much effect the epidurals have on
the babies. I like to get the baby skin to skin immediately and to the
breast w/ in the first hour as I feel this can circumvent many problems.
Anyhow, back to the pain control issue. Our moms seem to do pretty good w/
the above course. We do use the PCA sometimes but not often; it makes them
too goofy and most of them don't seem to like it. So, there it is for FYI.
