This morning I woke to the news with an item about how the content of
brominated flame retardants have increased by 58% in breastmilk over the past
decade. The public health institute reports that the increase is the same all
over Norway (previously there have been geographic variations in toxins in the
population because they have been from industrial sources). I heard the story
at 6:30 the first time. By 9 a.m. it was being accompanied by a blurb from
the environmental agency saying they are seriously considering banning these
flame retardants. Each announcement emphasized that the amounts are very,
very small and should not dissuade anyone from breastfeeding.

Haven't seen the tabloids yet, they usually do their bit to scare everyone,
but the network news listened to by virtually everyone seems fine.
