I've been following the vitamin D thread with much interest. In Israel vitamin D
supplementation to all infants has been standard practice for many many years.
Mothers rarely question it, and then only because they're worried if it's terrible if they
forgot it for one day. And this is in Irael, a really sunny country most of the year. I have
no idea why and when this was started. Maybe in the fifties when there were many
immigrants from islamic countries who traditionally covered their children. It has never
been targeted at bf babies only, and still isn't. I guess that the vast majority of babies
have absolutely no need for this, and reading all the information about how much
sunshine exposure is needed will strengthen my advice to moms to just forget about
it.
