While we're on the subject of this 32-weeker at 4 months of age on only
ebm, one other question. She has changed her stooling pattern to every
few days a blow-out stool to now going longer than 5 days, which
apparently was too much for their pedi, who recommended prune juice and a
"mild suppository". Now that another 5 days have gone by, the pedi is
considering a laxative. The baby has been thriving, in no distress,
voiding plenty, gaining nicely, in other words behaving just like a normal
breastfed baby who could go as long as 7-10 days without a stool. I want
to say to them that this is normal and that no laxatives are needed, but I
have little experience with premies in such a situation, and I can't find
literature on this. Anyone have any experience with this?
TIA, Alicia.
