Hi,
I know a now 34 month old, that was a very slow weight gain, major
spitter -upper as an infant (family dr. R/O pylorric stenosis) who it's been
suggested (by an MD, though neither confirmed nor denied by the ENT that
scoped his throat) has tracheolaryngalmalasia...
Anyone out there have experience with how this condition may or may
not have affected both the reflux issue and the slow gain due to poor
suckling bc of possible involvement of soft palate...?After a rocky start,
baby would nurse 45 minutes every 90 minutes around the clock. Lost 10%
initially, regained ten pound birthweight at 9+ weeks, doubled at 1 year,
tripled at 33 months. Mom reported no swallowing sounds nor any let down
feelings while nursing this one, though reports noticing the difference bw
this older sib and second unaffected baby; older sib still does not get let
down and does not make much swallowing sounds unless nursing at same time as
younger sib....
Child also has other gross motor/low tone issues, didn't
crawl until 12 months, walked at 21 months, being evaluated for PT, OT and
speech therapy now for mild delays. Cognitively is exceptionally bright,
reads some, uses computer...
Can anything be done if future sibs have same condition (mom has
paternal uncle with three children with similar condition) to improve
nursing/weight gain?
I've always been curious about this and hope to tap the resources on Lactnet
to satisfy that curiosity!

thanks,
