>When I first subscribed to Lactnet(July 15 1999), I received a 8-page
>info sheet. On page 4, it says avoid injudicious mention of brand
>names. "In most cases, a generic term such as cylinder pump, bottle
>liner...will suffice..."(p.4) has this policy changed? If it has, why
>hasn't the hello and welcome changed?

The Welcome note also says:

"Responding to an inquiry WITHOUT mentioning the name of the product or
company, or doing so only ***once***, in order to provide information or
clarification is appropriate on LACTNET. When discussing the merits of any
product or service, please PREFACE YOUR REMARKS WITH "In my opinion."
This makes it clear that it is your OWN opinion, and not that of Lactnet
owners, etc..."

Please also notice that it says above "injudicious". That means you do not
repeat the name of a product over and over again in your post in order to
draw attention to that product. Yes, if you only need to mention that "the
mother was pumping with a medical grade pump" then only say that, but there
are times when it is appropriate to use brand names.

Please use common sense and good judgement with regards to using brand names
on Lactnet.

Also, if you have a comment or request about the running of the list ("why
hasn't the hello and welcome changed?"), please direct it to the list owners
(Kathleen Bruce, Karen Zeretzke, Melissa Vickers and me) at
[log in to unmask] and not on the list at large.

Kathy
