Barbara,
You wrote "Many of us (probably more than you are aware of) have worked very
hard for years as individuals and in coalitions that approach governments and
participate in lobbing activites and speak and write, etc. about the
protection of bfg from industry."

I believe I am very aware of and applaud what others have done and continue
to do in promoting and protecting breastfeeding. For example back in 1995,
when I worked in WIC, I used Marsha Walker's "Risks of Artificial Infant Feeding"
to educate the staff. I believe this information had a positive effect. In
fact, I am somewhat taken aback when people on this list state they cannot
professionally discuss the risks of infant formula in their institutions.
Marsha's paper cites study after study that shows that there are known risks of
infant formula in our developed world. [I believe there is far more risks than
even studies are suggesting-particularly now when infant formula contains so
many "novel" ingredients]

My comment of "breastfeeding advocates refuse to see the big picture," is
from my own perspective. I have spent a couple of years just trying to convince
people that human milk components (mostly genetically engineered) are being
patented and used in products in the marketplace. I haven't heard from anyone
or any organization about concerns about donating human milk and its
relationship to patenting. So I am rather surprised that I am preaching to the choir.
