I heard about a vet who was brought a very sick beaver.  He treated it as he
would any other mammal that size, including antibiotics.  It improved, then
sickened and died.  On autopsy the vet found a gut full of undigested wood.
He'd killed off the organisms necessary to the beaver's specialized
digestion.  Maybe this has no relevance to breastfeeding.  Or maybe it has.
