Dear Rebecca:

The key is the credit card.  Check and see what the
privacy statement says for that particular card & all
here may want to look for the information.  Often the
credit card companies/financial institutions will sell
or "rent" (a term used by some companies who still
want to be able to say they do not *sell*) information
related to your purchases to other companies they feel
you would be interested in.  Unless one specifically
opts out of the information being sent to their
"partners" you will receive endless reams of
unsolicited media & other offers.  A law came into
effect either early this year or last year, that the
companies had to give consumers the right not to have
their information given out in this manner.  Most of
the credit companies sent out either a little postcard
mailing or used a notice within a statement stating
that a person had to reply to the notice to be taken
out of the programs.  For some of the companies, one
can go to the website of the company.  Unless a person
takes the steps, the companies believe it's their
right to sell our privacy down the river to the
highest bidder.
