I believe that ethics is a critically important issue in the field of
breastfeeding and human lactation. I also believe that ethics is a
particularly poorly understood issue and one which is particularly
challenging to put into practice. We are only human. It is inherently
difficult to see our own biases. It is inherently difficult to really
believe that *our* feelings, beliefs, and behavior--not just someone
else's--could be influenced in minor to major ways by marketing practices
intentionally designed to manipulate us for the sake of the marketer's
profit. Without a concerted study of ethics--with absolute conviction that
this issue applies to *us*--I think we have very little chance of ensuring
that we conduct ourselves in the best interest of our clients, our
profession, and, ultimately, ourselves.

Warmly,

Cynthia
