You may be interested in a picture in the quarterly of the Dutch BFHI
foundation. Although the text is in Dutch, there is a good picture of
a hospital side-bed arrangement (clip-on-crib). It is on page 5 of
this issue: http://zvb.nautadereede.nl/files/GoedGevoed_5_2.pdf

This contraption pretty much removes all the issues you are
mentioning above. In this particular hospital they have only a small
number of these side-beds and they are offered to moms who had a
cesarian, had flexus (?) or have pelvic problems. According to the
text they are lightweight and easy to clip on and off if needed for
care of the mother or for giving assistance to mom when she is
breastfeeding.
