An inexpensive alternative to formula company plastic bags is simply to
go to the supermarket and get some freezer bags, not the thick ones, but
the thinner ones that usually come with twisty ties. We have been using
them for years at the hospital where I work (we do not use the twisty
ties, we just leave them open). They cost about $1.50 for 75 bags. I
usually purchase them myself when I'm doing my regular grocery shopping
and my employer reimburses me. They're so cheap I bought them for a long
time without even asking for reimbursement. We have about 450 moms a
year that breastfeed so it costs about $9.00/year !!

We do not put any formula company material in the bag--the front item is
a multi-colored flip chart designed by our regional breastfeeding task
force. We also put in information about local breastfeeding support
groups, local breast pump rental stations, an informational page on
when/how to get help if problems arise, and sometimes a catalog from La
Leche League or Motherwear. We do not PUSH any items in the catalogs, we
live in a small town where you cannot find decent nursing products so we
put these catalogs in more as a resource if they can't find items
locally.

The best thing about these bags(besides being cheap) is that they are
completely clear so that the breastfeeding booklet it staring at them
out the bag -- I put it on their over-bed table so they have to see it
at least once, and of course, whenever possible, I go through the bag
with them to let them know what's in it.
