Thank you all for your replies.

The mom is symptomatic. She has lost 10+ pounds in 2 weeks, her breasts have
gone from a dd cup to a b in the same time. She is extremely fatigued. She
really needs to get rid of the protozoa badly. She has been mildly
symptomatic since Feb but worse lately.

Her concern with Flagyl is that it wipes out the good and bad inhabitants of
your digestive system. Her daughter is being tested but the test is
unreliable and the baby has no symptoms. She is concerned about wiping out
the healthy floura of her daughters GI tract if she doesn't have the
protozoa. I have read that breastmilk is has anti-parasite properties and
thus her daughter might really not have giardia. That is why she is looking
for an alternative to Flagyl. Weaning is not really the question - it's
giving her daughter any quantity of something that will kill benefitial
floura.

I know there are natural alternatives out there - I just don't know if they
do the same thing or if they are more specific in their destruction. ie:
garlic, senna and damaiana.

Does anyone know of any natural / non-pharmacutical approaches to wiping out
giardia? According to a study I read the other day, she could even drink her
own milk. Of course, she is serious enough that we should use the quickest
available medicine.

Lisa - good luck in Yugoslavia. I hope things go well for you.

Rachael
