Dear Jan,

I've been working with a mom of 5 mos old who's had persistent plugged ducts
on one breast only, always same spot, who finally resolved them after 3
ultrasound treatments. We're still in process of trying to reduce supply and
not get plugged again and I posted on the herb site for info on homeopathics
and herbs to help decrease. Your mom seems to not have oversupply tho and of
course bf more frequently, etc would seem to help supply and plugs. The mom
I worked with tried cabbage and phytolocca (homeopathic) with good results
after a couple of days but it took the ultrasound to really unplug her and
even then she's had one episode last weekend of plug returning but easily
resolved and even plug on the usually unaffected breast, it too resolved with
her breast in the bucket. We've tried about everything-soaks in container,
upside down nursing, leaning over nursing(mom did this on her own; would put
baby on bed with his legs toward her, his head between her knees-so he
couldn't turn it-and then lean over and bfing; she showed me and it was
amazing(she was on her knees for this).

Also used poultices of shredded potato after plug first resolved because her
breast was so sore-this helped. A comfrey putice is recommended by Susan
Weed and I did suggest this to mom but she used potato. She also had a
nipple "bleb", blister and this was extremely lirritated until I suggested
Jack's nipplle ointment which helped tremendously.(as did opening it with
needle).

Hope this long post helps and I'll be glad to discuss further with you. I
need to write up her case more coherently, it is very interesting. She, BTW,
has had plugs in this area on top of R breast for all 3 children, and I've
worked with her since baby one, and she didn't call me til this babe was 4
1/2 mos tho had plugs since baby's first week.
