Naomi asked:

<<As one who doesn't work directly with nursing mothers and babies, how
frequently is frenotomy necessary? Is is hereditary? Is this
something I should be bringing up in childbirth classes when I talk
about bf, or is it uncommon enough that I shouldn't worry about it.
If I should bring it up, what should I say to a class of couples
expecting their first baby in the next few weeks?>>

Two weeks ago I would have said "uncommon". This week and last I swear we
are running a special on them. In my "normal" population (meaning I see
normal moms and babies as well as ones that are having difficulties) I've had 4
out of 5 babies with tight frenula. When I saw the baby today, I was beginning
to think we were running a special on them....
