I am responsible for this thread so I just want to apologize and try to
clarify some things.

I was defending LLLLeaders and making a point about a mother who went to
a meeting and then complained about how she felt uncomfortable there
because she fed her baby candy, or dressed him in paper
diapers.....you've all heard this before....

My point is, if this mom thought through her decisions...she wouldn't
have to feel guilty.....no matter what someone else was doing. I am all
for an occasional piece of candy. Kids are growing up in a world where
the stuff exists and need to learn how to deal with it.

I myself have been in these "uncomfortable" shoes. I felt "guilty" about
something, got angry at the person responsible for bringing that up in
me, and later thought it through and changed my behavior. I think of my
own feelings of guilt as a good thing, sort of a window into my
intuitive soul. When I feel those butterflies I ask myself why.

I am not in the business of protecting women from those kinds of
feelings. When I get such a complaint about an LLLLeader in my area. I
usually ask the mother why she thinks she felt that way and leave it at
that. It really is HER problem. Not the LLLLeader's.

This has nothing to do with the terror, grief and remorse that a family
feels upon the loss of a child. I would be mixing apples and oranges to
pretend that it does.

I guess I'd like to end this thread by saying. I'm sorry to have brought
this emotional issue into this professional forum. Thanks to everyone
who responded to me both over the Lactnet and privately.

.I am thinking....would this be a good topic for a session at an up and
coming conference?? I'm game for putting such a thing together...with
some help! Let me know if anyone else is interested.

Sincerely,

Susan Keith-Hergert RN, MS, CPN, IBCLC
