What's the old saying? Lies, damn lies, and statistics...

Pumps and bottles are not a breastfeeding related expense...they are
a working related expense...
These studies remind me of the way the Consumer Product Safety
Commission lumps together deaths that occur while a baby is sleeping
alone in a parental bed in with infant deaths that occur while co-
sleeping in a parental bed, and then makes the wild extrapolation
and recommendation against co-sleeping- as if all the deaths are co-
sleeping deaths!!!

If things aren't defined things correctly and categorized correctly
incorrect conclusions are drawn...

The "breastfeeding is free" message has never resonated with me
because I am encouraging mothers who would not be impoverished by
leaving employment to do so for a time so they can experience the
normal course of mothering through breastfeeding...this of course is
*expensive* as it costs the mother's entire income...

Does someone on this list know where the study appeared that
demonstrated that men whose wives worked
when they had babies and young children made different career choices
that led to lower total compensation to the family over time?
Now everybody don't freak out, I am not suggesting that a woman never
return to the work force
I am just suggesting that women should not be afraid to stop
working for awhile because they think it is an economic blow their
families can never recover from...I think this study demonstrated
that for most families it can be an economic help in the long run...
