I have several questions and comments for those in Florida and all of us in
general to think about. 1st-Do the doctors prescribe Reglan for low milk
supply? If so I would be more scared of the potential side effects and legal
issues with this drug particularly with the fact that it increases
depression in a post partum mum who already may be fragile because of her
situation related to breastfeeding, and the fact that this drug crosses the
blood brain barrier with potential CNS effects. 2nd- Domperidone has been
uses to increase milk supply in Canada with preemie babies see this study in
CMAJ (Canadian Medical Association Journal)
http://www.cma.ca/cmaj/vol-164/issue-1/0017.htm 3rd- Has anyone suggested
to the doctors that one day there may be a very big class action suit
against the formula companies (like the tobacco companies) and the doctors
that are recommending these formula over assisting mums to breastfeed may
very well be liable also. Show the doctors the recalls of Infant feeding
Products from the FDA enforcement report (thank you Marsha Walker I was
stunned, shocked and scared by this info). Yes there are risks of using
medications with breastfeeding but as always we must out way the risks of
not breastfeeding and using Artificial Formula. (I use the word formula as
it reminds me always that it is a concoction of products mixed together like
drugs). We are human beings and our babies need human milk. Lets find ways
to do this.
