knowing with brains. The rest is emotion. Emotion can only be changed with
attitude. Both governing bodies and health care providers must change
attitude and
see bf as the health item it is, like they do with vacinations, smoking and
car seats, instead of as a lifestyle choice as is now in many industrialised
countries.
My week is just starting & I had several mothers tell me why they had decided
to switch to formula feeding before their baby was even 24 hours old! I was
giving some "pep talks" and citing some of the recent studies on the benefits
of breastfeeding. 2 of the moms said "I'll think about it." The other 3 said
"No, I've decided to bottle-feed." Another said that she would pump so her baby
would get the colostrum. What is going on??? We normally see 80-90%
breastfeeding initiation at our hospital. Somebody, please, get that breastfeeding
campaign going!! We need a cultural revolution!!
