Today was not a real hectic - but quite interesting. First, Grandma here for an appointment with adorable 3 month old grandbaby. She mentions she wished baby could be breastfed, but mom is in rehab. Made me kind of sad. Second, family from Afghanistan who speak mostly Farsi - finally was able to determine mom was breastfeeding a lot (seemed to be going well, I think). They are using some formula, but after getting on the phone with someone who spoke Farsi and English - we realized that she was inquiring about a breastpump too. Not very easy to explain how to use a manual one - but did lots of "show and tell". I am still trying to figure out why the baby was literally wearing FIVE long sleeve onesies/shirts (yes, 5). It is not cold in California. We think the baby maybe had a fever (?) and shots last Friday, as there were band-aids on her legs. I suggested two shirts. Gave an inservice on oxytocin and let-down - some of the information came from an article about milking cows - and all of the research from that made perfect sense. Tomorrow? A visit to our new courthouse to see their "Quiet/Lactation Room". All in a day's work
