I think if you surveyed mothers nursing older babies, toddlers and 
children, you might fine that mothers of older nurslings do, frequently, 
nurse on one breast. I would suspect it might become more common as the 
child becomes older. The subject comes up a lot at toddler nursing 
meetings; there's always a "hey, me too!" once one mother mentions it. 
It's also very common to hear mothers of older babies say that one 
breast has always worked better than the other.

No explanations for the colour, except that the milk might be more 
protein-rich, high-fat... would that do it? Or might the mother be 
pregnant and starting to produce colostrum?
