Many years ago in St. Louis we had a couple that was VERY limited in abilities. They had very little family that lived nearby, and prided themselves in being able to provide for themselves through work bagging in grocery stores and cooking simple meals. They did have regular visits from a Public Health Nurse.

Much to everyone's chagrin, she got pregnant. When she delivered a beautiful baby girl, the pediatrician was THRILLED that she was breastfeeding, as there was a great deal of concern about being able to measure and mix bottles and change amounts of formula as the baby grew. With breastfeeding, cleanliness, mixing, shopping, etc. were not issues...and baby was started on the foods the parents were eating and could fix for themselves - which were simple but healthy meals.

I never heard what happened as the baby grew up, but her start was EXCELLENT!
