Hello Brilliant Women (& Men),

PTP, a mom I have been working with has a 10 week old infant with suspected food allergies (family history, blood in stools, eczema, etc, etc). Mom has followed her ped's advice and been feeding Alimentum & pumping for several days to a week at a time (until stool no longer tests positive for occult blood) when baby has blood in her stool. She is simultaneously on an elimination diet, keeping a diet diary and has just started taking pancreatic enzymes.

At baby's check up last week there was no occult blood in the stool after re-initiating breastfeeding but baby had what mom described as "coffee grounds" in the stool x1. The MD told mom not to worry about it since the stool tested negative but could not offer any explanation of what the coffee grounds might be. Mom of course panicked and went back to feeding the Alimentum...

Anyone have any ideas or information I could give this mom re: this strange stool?

Thanks so much,

Laura Wasielewski MS, CCC-SLP, IBCLC

Still loving the tongue tie thread & having many more thoughts but not enough time to post them!
