The large number of high & narrow infant-on palates cannot be explained alone
by in-utero thumb sucking or post birth oral tubing.

BUT high levels of cortisone during gestation might....as "High levels of
circulating glucocorticoids in fetal animals are associated with inhibited
development of the lateral processes of the maxilla, or upper jaw, as these
bones grow toward midline union early in gestation. This inhibition can
prevent fusion and lead to the formation of cleft palate."

What FACTORS would increase the levels of corticosteroids in certain MOMs
during gestation??????
