Hey Lactnetters! Can you help me? I need your experience and wisdom.
I've been a Home study LC student for 9 months, in a rural area. So, I
have some basics down, but not the hard stuff.

Mother of a 6 month old called me last night, who has been having
difficulties with plugged milk ducts. Has nursed all her babies for at
least a year (this is #4) and has had no difficulties in the past at
all. With this babe though she has had numerous plugged ducts since his
birth, progressively getting harder to resolve and more frequent.
Described in her words, "red, streaked, hard areas on my breast, tender
to the touch" she denies fevers, chills, body aches so far and has been
able to resolve them with heat, massage, and nursing babe with his nose
towards the area. She has changed bras, and the ones she has now are
loose and comfortable. She tries not to sleep on her chest, and tries
not to put pressure on her breasts any other way. The plugged ducts are
not in a consistent area at all, they alternate between sides and
location on the breast. She changes nursing position frequently. Could
this be a problem with the baby's suck? Or something else? Any advice
would be nice to try.

Is there anyone in Wisconsin going to KS for the conference? I really
want to go but I am a little low on funds and would like to share a room
and possibly transportation if you are driving. Just wondering, would
be able to get to Chicago area if necessary.

By the way, someone asked about the home study program the other
day-Thank you Judi for responding! I love the program and recommend it
highly.

Teri Richards, RN
Student LC and nursing mom,
(Actually, did you know that you can nurse and read Lactnet at the same
time? I do it all the time!)
