I think two things happen when moms eliminate foods known to be allergens for a previous baby, while pregnant with a subsequent baby. First, of course, the mom does not expose the fetus to either the proteins themselves or her own antibodies and secondly the mom has the opportunity to at least partially heal her own gut. Certainly her best course of action would be to use gut healing herbs and supplements before pregnancy as well as continuing with those appropriate during pregnancy. I think it is a good bet that any mom with a seriously allergic baby has a seriously damaged gut herself.

I also agree that any mom with an allergic baby needs to know how significant it is that she have a normal birth. The quality of the mom's gut flora is significant, but it is also significant that her baby experience colonization through vaginal birth.
