We should not be afraid to tell mothers that it is rare that the risks of a
small amount of medication in the milk will be greater for the baby than
formula. The risks of formula feeding are considerable.

If the mother took two secobarbitals instead of one, this should not have
been a concern. The amount of any drug which gets into the milk is very
small. I disagree with Dr. Hale, as a matter of fact, as I think he is being
too radical (*not* conservative, as conservative would be to encourage
breastfeeding). Two times a tiny amount is still a tiny amount.
