LACTNET Digest - 8 Jan 2004 (#2004-50)So a Mom with an 8 week old calls about frequent spitting after fdgs sometimes projectile.  Baby is gaining extremely well and healthy.  Discussion of overactive let-down and gulping, over-feeding reviewed.  The mention of dairy and other food issues was addressed for review and Mom was encouraged to keep a journal.  Sometimes the regurge is an hour after fdg and curdled.  Today baby was in radiology for testing to r/o reflux and whatever.

Mom was told by the doctor to cut out all dairy.  He also, said that depending test results etc...it could be a rare possibility that baby is allergic to the breastmilk.  The doctor apparently had talked with a gastroenterologist who made a reference to "allergy".  So how can this be?  Baby is healthy and "well developed" for 2 months with no obvious issues except spitting.  Why would one think of "allergy to breastmilk"?  I'd love to hear your comments!!
