 Subject: Communication with doctors

Re: the doctor who wants mom to wean for febrile illness. There is so much
literature that addresses this. I wouldn't confront the doctor as in: You
are making a mistake. I would copy a few salient refs from respectable
MEDICAL resources (not breastfeeding books -- except for those written by
doctors) and fax over with a brief note saying:

Dear Dr. X, Having a very narrow specialization allows me the luxury of
being pretty familiar with the lactation literature. I realize we are
having a divergence of opinion over the safety of breastfeeding while mom is
ill, but I wanted to let you take a look at the references upon which I've
been basing my opinion. Let me know what you think?
 Best Regards, Lucy LC.

If you've chosen some good refs, it will be difficult to ignore them, and
this wording is cordial, not insulting, and allows for dialog. Which is how
you invite people to receive your new information most effectively.

this is excellant! May I use this when the need arises? (or close
facimile?) Especially your first sentence, such a non-threatening way to
phrase it!
