"GASP!  (Back of hand to forehead, look up, roll eyes) Horrors!  I'm shocked
to hear it suggested that co-sleeping might smother a baby. Does this mean
that if I continue to sleep with my dogs I might roll over and smother them?
 (Look worried, wring hands) Oh, my!  How do I explain it to the dogs that I
won't be able to comfort them during thunderstorms? (Raise eyebrows, look
frantic) The consequences are hard to contemplate...." (exit stage right,
shaking head sadly)

Oh, come on now.  This old saw has been around for decades and makes no sense
whatsoever. I dug around to find the source of the "co-sleeping is dangerous"
nonsense and found some very interesting ideas that are too long to print. I
presented them in a workshop a while back and will write up my findings
sometime soon.
