We've been getting better and better at getting babies to breast at
birth (the policy says "within two hours" but it's usually immediate
with vaginal births and an hour or so with cesareans). I always thought
it was God's truth that the milk wouldn't be in before 48 hours with a
primip -- sent home a sweet little cookie today whose primip mom was
dripping milk at 48 hours. And we had an 11lb 12 oz-er this week (C/s)
who gained 4 oz over his 3rd night, again a primip.

Priscilla Tansley and I wrote the policy so I guess we should be patting
ourselves somewhere -- certainly we aren't perfect yet, but I'm
beginning to think we know what normal looks like!(I know I know, just
look at the homebirth babies....) And I love mother/baby nursing
postpartum.

always had)
