I have to agree with you there Karen. I've also been a counselor for over 5 years now and have also accured hours this way, some with the intent to become an IBCLC but some occured before I even knew what an IBCLC was. They are not easy hours! Actually, I don't really think that there are hours that are easy to accure? But what I will say (so easy sitting out of harms way, behind a computer!) is that as I've been following the discussion, I've wondered whether there should be a time limit as to how "old" these hours are? Is it prudent that someone (a counselor of RN to be fair!) should count hours they earned 20 years ago, especially if they have not been working with dyads in that time and have now re-entered the fields of looking after dyads just in the recent years and want to become an IBCLC? Or is it just like riding a bike?

What ever, it is certainly a very mixed bag, where one size doesn't fit all type of senario.

(and wondering how to make the switch from BF counselor to IBCLC - both roles having entwined themselves tightly together since taking the exam).
