Have a mom who wishes to nurse her adopted baby, due in 2 weeks.
Complication: she is in premature menopause for 3 years so far (now 45 y.o.)
and has experienced lifelong infertility. She even tried GIFT with hormonal
prep for 1 year, to no avail. As her goals are realistic, wants to attempt to
bring in some milk and plans to use supplementer at breast to provide oral
motor and psych benefits of bf, I told her there is no harm in trying. She is
renting a pump tomorrow.
Does anyone have any input on the possible effect of being menopausal
on the chances of getting any milk? There are a lot of issues here: the
underlying infertility, whatever triggered the early menopause, and the
menopausal hormonal state as well.
Please send me a copy of any replies at [log in to unmask], as I am
going nomail for a few weeks while we move (ugh!) but will still check my
email occasionally.
Thanks all, I'll miss you!
