I am interested to hear of what is going on in Wal-Mart's around the
continent. Here in Québec, I gather there is a nice advertisement on TV
about a woman who goes in to Wal-Mart to rent a breastpump because of
nursing troubles, and she says in the ad. that in the end she didn't
have to rent it because she got good tips on nursing from the pharmacist
in Wal-Mart. Whether or not this is something that most pharmacists
from Wal-Mart would actually know anything about is perhaps something
that shoudl be worked out long-term (so that women don't go in and ask
just any old pharmacist who knows zip-all about nursing...), but all in
all, it sounds positive. I haven't seen this advertisement myself as I
rarely watch TV, but I've heard about it from several people, and I
think it is a vast improvement on some advertisements we've seen in the
past (from various companies).

One that bothers me, that is both an improvement in some sense, and also
*not* really an improvement at the same time, is the Dairy Board that
has put out a TV ad. with a mom nursing her baby drinking cow's milk.
It is better, in that a couple of years back, they had a baby drinking a
bottle of cow's milk (and the baby was quite obviously not yet 12 months
old), but I still think that it will leave a lot of women thinking that
they really MUST drink their cow's milk or they won't be able to nurse,
or perhaps won't get enough nutrients, or whatever. I think it is an
unfortunate thing, because to complain about it would almost make one
sound like one was never satisfied with anything (I suppose I'd be
satisfied if the Dairy board stopped advertising... ;-)), but to not
complain lets them think that it's ok to make nursing moms fear for
their bones and health if they don't drink their milk. :-(

Oh well...
