I found the handout "Breastfeeding: The First Week" at the Advance for nurses
website -- Here's the link for anyone else looking for this: ADVANCE For
Nurses | Feature
I think it's a great info sheet. The only statement that didn't sound like
what I teach is under day 4 -- "Allow 20 minutes on first side, then as long
as he needs on the second." I teach that baby knows when he's had enough and
encourage moms to look at the baby and how he's nursing rather than the
length of time he's spent. I am wondering what others teach regarding how
long to nurse or whether there's timing involved.
Like I said above -- this "fact sheet" is very well done and packs in a lot
of information. I am just curious about the "allow 20 minutes" phrase.
Thanks all!
