Announcing the launch of a new charity in the UK. The Breastfeeding
Network is based in Scotland, operating throughout the UK. Our volunteers
are known as Breastfeeding Supporters, and are women who have previous
experience as lay breastfeeding counsellors. (That is, they are former
National Childbirth Trust breastfeeding counsellors) We are developing a
training package.

I have pasted in part of our membership leaflet to let you get a feel for
what we're about. This is an exciting time for us, after some difficult
times which led to this charity being set up, we are looking to the future
with great optimism.

What the Breastfeeding Network aims to do………….
to be an independent source of support and information for breastfeeding
women and others; and
to develop an increased awareness of current research on infant feeding and
work towards creating a society which affirms the right of all women to
breastfeed their baby.

What the Breastfeeding Network believes………….
We believe that our aims can be achieved by providing support and education
about breastfeeding for society at large, in particular parents, health
professionals, and children and young people.
We believe that we can achieve this without linking ourselves with
companies whose activities are regulated by the World Health Organisation
Code on the Marketing of Breast Milk Substitutes, and that this approach
will be of most benefit to all parents and babies.
We believe that parents have the right to choose how to feed their
children, and that we can combine our roles as non-judgemental supporters
of parents with our roles as promoters of breastfeeding.
