Gloria, just yesterday I was wracking my brains for a cheap available
galactogogue for an impoverished mother. Are you saying that straight old
banana peel soup might work?

While I was wondering what on earth would this taste like, I decided to try.
This is what I did - put one washed greenish banana peel in pan with 1 large
cup of water, boiled for 20 mins until the peel was a bit softer. Drained
the liquid back into the cup (now three fourths full). Started drinking
this with a kind of recoiling mouth...... but it's not so bad. It's bland
and banana-ish. Might be more fun with honey. I will let you know tomorrow
if I have started lactating again!

Hm, I remember my Dad telling me when I was a teenager that someone had
discovered hallucigens in banana skins. What was he *thinking*, telling me
that??!

The only cheap galactogogues I came up with are alfalfa seeds, or fenugreek
seeds (both seem unknown here) or fennel seed made into tea - which might be
available. However I don't think "my" mother will be able to have the
luxury of buying even that. Straight FOOD will help her, of course.

She thought she might try ginger beer. Any other ideas welcome.
