Yesterday we picked up a prescription topical antibiotic for a
skin infection my son has.
Being good consumers we read the information sheet inside the box to
learn more about the medicaiton we were giving him, The infection is on the side
of his mouth ans we wanted to know if there might be some problems with that.
It seems from the description that the medication is reasonably safe and benign.

As usual, there was a paragraph describing what to do if you are pregnant;
experiments on animals with 100 times the normal human dose indicate no
problems however, since no studies have been done on humans
it is best to use this drug in pregnancy only if indicated.

Then there's a sentence for nursing mothers: "It is not known whether
B*** is present in breastmilk. Nursing
should be temporarily discontinued while using B***."

Does anyone who knows more about pharmeceuticals than I
do have any comments on this? It seems to me very
unlikely that this topical antibiotic can make its way into
breastmilk and there are well known consequences to
a woman stopping to nurse for five days while her skin
infection clears up.

Frustrating!!!!
