I was feeling pretty down after returning to work. So much so that by Friday
night I was ready to quit. Yesterday I felt like I was making a difference.
Jan B: Thanks for the inspiring words when I was feeling down. Thank the
Lord, the chief neonatoligist has given me the *rocks* I needed to slay
Golith with.
He wants a manditory LC follow-up (in office) at 3-5 days post discharge for
latch-on check, output and weight, visual check for jaundice, etc. The OB
department jumped in asking that we check the mom's blood pressure, temp and
vaginal bleeding (as long as we have mom there) We will need about 40 more
appointment slots per week to handle the proposed follow-up. Both departments
are willing to kick in the funds. (I heard they've been spending a lot of
money in urgent care visits)
A five minute comment to my department head about the cost savings if
infants are exclusively brF for 12 weeks ( Thank you Miriam Labbok) and what
peds and OB wants got the wheels rolling at a good speed. With the full
support of my department, it looks like things will be better soon-- not only
back on track but actually making progress. In a huge organization like mine,
things usually take a lot of time but the push to discharge moms earlier
makes this follow-up plan critical.
I'll keep you all posted.
