I recently had a prenatal consultation with a mom who is having a repeat
csec for reverse contractions. Her first labor lasted 14 hours, at which
point her OB informed her that her uterus was contracting upward, pushing
the baby up rather than down. I was tempted to roll my eyes internally, but
mom had already told me that she has had trouble with reverse peristalsis
all her life, projectile vomiting, and she has hyperemesis gravidarum for
the entire nine months of pregnancy, so there is already something funky
going on.

Al the usual factors derailed breastfeeding with the first baby, which is
why she was meeting with me to prepare for #2.

Is there such thing as reverse contractions? Is there a proper term for it
that I can research? And if mom does all this muscular stuff backwards,
what could this mean for milk ejection?

Thanks,
