Lea has put her finger on the problem. She wrote:

in essence the same organization and that the Executive Director of Healthy
Children is also a board member of ALPP, BFHI, USA and owns the property
that several of the organizations rent.<

This goes a long way towards explaining why the prerequisites for taking the
Advanced Lactation Consultant Certification requires "successful completion
of the Healthy Children course Maternal Infant Assessment for Breastfeeding
and Human Lactation and either a Healthy Children CLC or an IBCLC."

Note how a Healthy Children CLC or an IBCLC are considered to be an
equivalent!

This may also explain why one of the reports given at the New York State
Breastfeeding Coalition's Annual Meeting last week, made much of how
hundreds of maternity unit nurses had taken the Healthy Children CLC course
in the past year. Goodness knows I am ALL for nurses learning more about how
breastfeeding works, but an CLC credential is not the same as an IBCLC
credential. BTW, nobody even MENTIONED the importance of having IBCLCs on
staff until the US Lactation Consultant Association representative stood up!

This is one of the reasons I am helping to work towards licensing for IBCLCs
in New York State.
